My Neighbours the Dumplings is a dumpling house and sake bar in Clapton, near Hackney Central. We are a busy family run restaurant and bar opened last year in March 2016. Since opening we have been voted into the top 10 best new restaurants in London by Time Out in 2016, received great reviews in the Guardian and Sunday Times and have regular waiting times of up to 2 hours on both weekdays and weekends. We take great pride in serving top quality hand rolled dumplings and Dim Sum style dishes, compiling an exciting cocktail and sake list and creating an intriguing atmosphere for customers.
We have recently opened up another venue room at the rear of the building where we will be able to cater for events, such as live music, pop-up cinema and private parties. At the same time we are expanding our menu to include an interesting selection of hot bar snacks as well as a specialist dessert menu.
We are looking for an organised and passionate head chef to replace our current head chef. The role would be to manage the kitchen and kitchen staff, order and organise stock, ensure that the kitchen stays clean and tidy in line with food hygiene standards. You would need to have confidence and experience on the pass in sending out food and communicating with the front of house staff to ensure a good and consistent service. We would expect you to have a good eye for detail, ensuring that the quality of the food being sent out remains consistently high. The restaurant can get very busy so we’re looking for someone who enjoys a busy service and can work well under pressure.
We have a well-developed and concise menu, however we are always developing this and we are looking for someone to collaborate with on new dishes and specials, so experience or a strong interest in Asian food is essential. We have a separate team developing and rolling the dumplings, therefore no experience is needed specifically in Dim Sum or dumplings. Culinary skills that would be useful although not essential would be butchery and fishmongery, desserts and pastry and working with Asian ingredients in general.
We have been lucky enough to have developed a great solid team of hard working, loyal, and reliable chefs that would be assisting the head chef in accomplishing their tasks. Part of the role would be to manage this team in terms of shifts and duties, therefore people management is also part of the job. The role would also require you to communicate well, not only within the kitchen team but also you will be liaising with different teams within the restaurant. However, experience in management is not necessary and we are willing to work with someone who has not held a head chef position before as long as they are enthusiastic and willing to learn.

- £28,000 - £33,000pa (plus bonuses)
