Catering Manager

Salary: £25,000 - £27,000 per annum according to experience

Assistant Catering Manager

Salary: £18,000 - £20,000 per annum according to experience

START DATE: The successful candidates will start sometime in the New Year.  We have some flexibility as to exactly when but ideally both positions will be in place by mid-February

Over the past fifty years The Watermill Theatre has become one of the country’s leading regional producing theatres. Nestling on the banks of the River Lambourn, in the tiny hamlet of Bagnor, just outside Newbury in Berkshire, the theatre runs its own thriving restaurant and bar from the beautifully converted and recently refurbished 18th century tithe barn, situated adjacent to the theatre.

Our Restaurant serves fresh home cooked and where possible locally produced food for our audience.  In addition, our beautiful venue is available to hire for parties, wedding receptions, meetings and seminars. We are a small team comprising of a catering manager and assistant, a restaurant supervisor, 2 full and 1 part-time chefs, an administrator, a KP and a loyal team of part-time waiting staff.

CATERING MANAGER

We have been enormously fortunate that our current Catering Manager has stayed with us for the past 13 years and he will be missed by staff and customers alike. But it is time for him to move on to pastures new and we are now seeking a dynamic, creative and people focused individual to join the team as our new Catering Manager.

The successful applicant for Catering Manager will need all the skills required to run a busy 80 cover restaurant.

  • You will have worked at a similar level in a busy restaurant.
  • Have a passion for customer service
  • The proven ability to lead, motivate and inspire a team
  • Excellent communication and training skills
  • Experience of working with budgets, financial targets and wages
  • Have strong IT literacy and knowledge of stock control
  • Ability to manage in a diverse environment with a focus on client and customer services
  • Knowledge of food, food hygiene (including hazard analysis and critical control points) and food preparation.  
  • And all those other assets that make a great leader, such as enthusiasm, common sense, confidence, an eye for detail and most of all a sense of humour!
  • A love of theatre would be an added bonus.

Qualifications: A minimum of Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene

ASSISTANT CATERING MANAGER

We have also created the opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to take on the role of Assistant Catering Manager to work closely with the Catering Manager in running this popular and successful restaurant and bar. 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Worked at a similar level.
  • The ability to achieve and maintain excellence in all areas, including the quality and presentation of the product, the standard of service and of customer care.
  • The ability to train and lead by example
  • Excellent organisation skills and knowledge of Service procedures
  • Strong IT literacy skills.
  • Knowledge of food, food hygiene (including hazard analysis and critical control points) and food preparation. 
  • An understanding of financial management such as financial targets, stock control, cash handling, budgeting etc.
  • A willingness to learn and commitment to continuous improvement
  • and, of course, a sense of humour!

Qualifications: Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate desirable

These roles would be suitable for candidates who are living near Newbury or prepared to re-locate to the area and provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for experienced, hands-on catering professionals.
