Bedford Hospital is looking for an experienced and innovative Head Chef to lead a team of skilled chefs and support staff. Working in a busy award winning kitchen environment, and catering for 450 patient meals and 800 restaurant covers per day, the successful candidate must be capable of consistently producing high standards of food production to meet a variety of nutritional and dietary needs.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be able to produce high quality food cooking from first principles  
  • Be able to work unsupervised and confidently direct others
  • Have excellent communication skills, empathy and be able to organise
  • Be able to understand budgets and control expenditure
  • Hold professional qualifications from the Catering Industry
  • Have  a clear understanding of food hygiene and hold a valid certificate in Food Safety
  • Have a clear understanding of HACCP
  • Have the drive and ambition to succeed

Hours of work:

37.5hrs per week, 7.5hrs per day, working 5 days out of 7

 on a shift system between 06.00 hrs and 20.00 hrs with

Rotational weekend and bank holiday working
