Jockey Club Catering are looking to recruit a General Manager for their Kempton Park Racecourse.

The club Operates at many of racing’s crown jewel events, such as the Grand National at Aintree, The Cheltenham Festival and Derby Festival, we offer a full range of customer-focused food and beverages and are proud to use local, national and international suppliers to deliver the finest hospitality on the racing circuit.

Jockey Club Catering is a venture partnership between Jockey Club Racecourses, the UK’s leading racecourse and venues group, and Compass Group UK & Ireland, to provide top quality catering, hospitality and service at 15 racecourses nationwide. This sees Jockey Club Catering operate at The Jockey Club’s flagship Cheltenham Racecourse during the four days of The Festival, which is effectively the world championships of Jump racing, attended by more than 230,000 people. Jockey Club Catering was formed in 2009 and in 2013 the partnership was extended through until at least 2025.

Alongside racing, the iconic venues within The Jockey Club’s family are open throughout the year, hosting a wide variety of events including conferences, weddings, meetings and exhibitions, all of which can be individually tailored to meet each client request as it comes.

As the General Manager for Kempton Park you will take full responsibility for the racecourses whilst working closely with our client and driving the business. You will ensure standards across all event and non-event days in both commercial and hospitality services.

Developing and managing a motivated team of 16 strong and regular casual team, ensuring appropriate skills to ensure budget targets are achieved.

 £40,000-£42,000 dependent on experience

Main responsibilities
  • Managing a permanent team of 8, overseeinga team of 40+, ensuring standards are set and that the team are motivated and engaged 
  • Overseeing client and contractual relationships in a commercial manner ensuring compliance and company policies are adhered to
  • Driving service excellence thereby exceeding customer expectations/requirements and enhancing the customer journey
  • Driving the service and support to exceed our client's and our customers' expectations
  • Planning and implementing plans to achieve strategic growth of the operation and overall contract delivery
  • Deliver the profit for the business through leading and supporting your team in delivery of their financial targets
Ideal candidate
  • Management experience within Sport and Leisure or similar background preferred
  • Standards and quality driven management style
  • Results orientated and motivated to achieve measurable results
  • The ability to build and lead effective teams
  • Be self-motivated and show the ability to work in a challenging commercial, customer facing environment
  • Sound knowledge of Hygiene, Health and Safety
  • Proven experience in a similar hospitality or commercial multi outlet or multisite role
  • Have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Standards and quality driven management style
  • Motivated by a passion for quality and great service delivery
  • Computer literacy
  • Financial and commercial acumen
