Package description

  • £10.62 per hour. 37.5 hours per week.

Main responsibilities

The successful Team Leader will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare rotas and ensure that there is adequate staff on duty to cover all areas for the day, evening and night shift working patterns.

  • Ensure supervision of all portering staff is carried out at both work and rest break times.
    Authorise all staff annual leave requests and maintain annual leave records.  Arrange appropriate cover as and where necessary.
    Take an active role in the recruitment of all staff.  Assess and shortlist application forms, interview and recruit staff.
    Give induction training to all new members of staff and provide refresher training to all staff on a planned and regular basis, or when required on an individual basis. 
    To undertake other in house training sessions, assessing staff and coordinating training programmes, as required.
    To support the Department in the introduction of NVQ training schemes, arranging the release and cover of staff.
    Ensure that all staff training records are signed by each employee and supervisor, then maintained and kept up to date.
    Monitor all staff sickness and absence levels, reporting trends and notifying the Assistant Hotel Services Manager so that appropriate action can be taken.
    Undertake annual Personal Development Interviews with all staff, to ensure that development, training and educational needs are identified and individual action plans developed and supported, as part of the NHS Plan.
    To operate the one-point call control desk to ensure demand for porters services hospital wide are met in a timely and effective fashion by allocating tasks to porters and when appropriate by performing tasks in person.
    To allocate ad hoc tasks fairly, as they are received.  Also to participate in the general portering duties, patient movement etc, as workloads demand, as long as one Portering supervisor remains available at the Supervisor’s desk.
