We are on the hunt for a proven General Manager seeking a new and challenging opportunity to lead and inspire our team at Jockey Club Catering at Exeter and Wincanton, part of Compass Group UK & Irl.

We host some spectacular events including the Magners Cheltenham Festival and the Randox Grand National. With a year-round calendar of events, Jockey Club Catering and Compass Group is a fantastic place to further develop your career.


Jockey Club Catering, was formed in 2009 to provide outstanding catering, hospitality and customer service to all of The Jockey Club’s racecourses nationwide and has a portfolio of 15 racecourses delivering catering to over 333 race days a year by amazing teams of up to 3,500 employees on an event.

As the General Manager for Exeter and Wincanton you will take full responsibility for the racecourses catering operation as part of the south west team and region, whilst working closely with our client and driving the business. You will ensure standards across all event and non-event days in both commercial and hospitality services.

Developing and managing a motivated fixed and casual team, ensuring appropriate skills to ensure budget targets are achieved.

Package description

  • Up to £36500 depending on experience  per annum. 40 hours per week.

Main responsibilities

  • Managing a permanent team of 5, overseeing a strong casual team of 50+, ensuring standards are set and that the team are motivated and engaged 

  • Managing two sites Exeter and Wincanton

  • Overseeing client and contractual relationships in a commercial manner ensuring compliance and company policies are adhered to

  • Driving service excellence thereby exceeding customer expectations/requirements and enhancing the customer journey

  • Driving the service and support to exceed our client's and our customers' expectations

  • Planning and implementing plans to achieve strategic growth of the operation and overall contract delivery

  • Deliver the profit for the business through leading and supporting your team in delivery of their financial targets

Ideal candidate

  • Management experience within Sport and Leisure or similar background preferred

  • Standards and quality driven management style

  • The ability to build and lead effective teams

  • Be self-motivated and show the ability to work in a challenging commercial, customer facing environment

  • Sound knowledge of Hygiene, Health and Safety

  • Have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

  • Standards and quality driven management style

  • Motivated by a passion for quality and great service delivery
